lyrics

The Tower

"Some stories are a circle
Some serpents eat their tails
Some begin with storms and end with storms
And no-ones souls are saved.
I can feel the darkness rising
And the shipwrecked sailors cries.
The waves are crashing in my head
To wash the fire out from my eye"

He was a watcher, silent and brave
Searching the driftwood for something to save.
She was an orphan, a child of the storm
Torn by the tempest, cold and alone.

She spoke of voices, fathom deep
Of waves that whispered "Guide us home"
She woke him from his sleep
And told him of the tower of stone.

Her tears of salt and sanctuary
And love would never set him free
And so he built upon her madness
On the cliffs above the sea.

His love was like a guiding fire
Burning doubt and fear away.
His lighthouse was a silver spire,
Through turning tides and ocean spray.

But their waiting seemed eternal, and his love for her grew dim.
He was locked inside her madness, her prison broke his will.

Then one night, the sea stopped singing
The waves withheld their song.
Deafened by the silence
All she knew, she knew was wrong.

Twisted like a corkscrew, up the endless stair
Jumping through the window, swimming through the air.
The moon put down a pathway, the tower a bridge of light.
Where no net could catch her, she vanished from his sight.

Now he's as empty as the seashell, he holds up to his ear
He waits forever by the sea for a voice he'll never hear.

He says time is not a river, that flows into the past
It's an ocean filled with 'might have beens and loves that never last.

All we write, we write upon the sand
For time to wash away.
And when the sea reclaims the land
There'll be nothing left to say.

"Some stories are a circle
Some serpents eat their tails
Some begin with storms and end with storms
And no-ones souls are saved."
